Short answer

ClickUp Docs are documents inside your Workspace, available on every plan, including for guests. A wiki is a Doc you mark as the source of truth, with nested pages, comments and tasks you can create from the text.

ClickUp Docs are the documents that live inside a ClickUp Workspace: project briefs, meeting notes, SOPs and wikis. They are available on every plan, and guests can use them. A wiki is not a separate product. It is a Doc you mark as the source of truth, so people and ClickUp Brain know which page to trust.

If you are still setting up the hierarchy, start with how to use ClickUp. Docs sit on top of that structure. The ClickUp hub links the rest of the feature guides.

What are ClickUp Docs?

ClickUp Help describes Docs as documents that connect to tasks. You can create one from the Home sidebar, the Spaces sidebar, the Views bar, a location header, the toolbar, Docs Hub, a Doc template, or a slash command in any field that accepts text.

Docs Hub is the library. It is available on every plan, and everyone, including guests, can open it. From the hub you can create a Doc, create a wiki, browse Doc templates, search by name, filter the table, and import content. ClickUp Help also says you can import Confluence spaces and pages from Docs Hub.

A Doc is made of pages and subpages. You drag pages to reorder them or nest them. You can add a cover image and a page icon, tag Docs so they are easier to filter, and search inside a multi-page Doc from the pages sidebar.

Templates keep repeated documents consistent. ClickUp templates cover Docs along with tasks, Lists and Spaces. Save a brief or SOP after it has worked once, then apply that Doc template the next time.

You can also add a Doc as a view on a Space, Folder or List, so the brief stays attached to that project. Deleting a Doc view deletes the Doc. If you only want to remove the view, move the Doc first.

How do ClickUp wikis work?

A wiki is a Doc that ClickUp prioritizes as the source of truth. You can create a wiki anywhere you can create a Doc, or open an existing Doc, use the menu, and turn on "Mark Doc as wiki." Converting either way keeps the content and the formatting. Wikis show a badge so they are easy to tell apart from ordinary Docs.

ClickUp's pricing comparison lists 1 wiki on Free Forever, 1 wiki on Unlimited, and 1 wiki on Business. ClickUp Help says Business Plus plans can create unlimited wikis, and that saving a wiki as a template counts as creating a wiki. Plan names on the pricing page and in Help do not always match, so confirm the limit in your Workspace before you design a large wiki library.

Help lists a few practical uses. You organize wikis in Docs Hub next to other Docs. ClickUp Brain prioritizes wikis when it answers. You can comment, see those comments in your Inbox, and create tasks from the wiki. Brain only shows a wiki to people who already have permission to open it.

Wikis created in Docs Hub are private by default on the Business plan and up. You share them the same way you share a Doc.

Use the single wiki on Free Forever, Unlimited or Business for the handbook people actually search: statuses, how you name tasks, and where client files live. Put one-off briefs in ordinary Docs so the wiki stays current.

How do Docs connect to tasks?

The useful part of ClickUp Docs is that the writing and the work can point at each other.

  • Select text in a Doc and create a task from it.
  • Add a Relationship between a Doc and a task so you can jump either way.
  • Comment on a Doc for questions, feedback or a suggested edit. Comments can include rich text, embeds and attachments. ClickUp assigns the comment to Anyone, or to the first person or Team you mention.
  • Create a synced block in a Doc or a task description, then place copies where the same paragraph is needed. When the original changes, the copies update.
  • Open page history to see what changed, who changed it, and when. You can restore an earlier version.
  • Add owners and contributors. An owner is the creator or someone you add. A contributor is someone who edited the Doc or was added. Owners are not listed as contributors.

You can archive a Doc when you are finished with it. Archived Docs stay hidden and keep their content, and you can unarchive them. On Business Plus and above, you can protect a Doc or a page so people do not edit it by accident.

Export options in Help are PDF, HTML and markdown. That matters if a client needs a copy outside ClickUp.

Agencies often keep a brief Doc inside the client Folder. The ClickUp for agencies setup uses that pattern: one Folder per client, and a Doc for the questions you ask every time.

Should you use ClickUp Docs or Notion?

Notion is the stronger writing tool. Its pages, databases and wikis are the product, and the editor is what many teams open first. ClickUp Docs are there so the brief, the decision and the task live in one Workspace. If the knowledge base is the job, start with Notion. If the job is delivering projects and the documents support that, ClickUp is the cleaner stack.

Sharing follows the same split. In ClickUp you can share a Doc with people in the Workspace, share a public link, or share one page or even one block. Private Docs, and private wikis created in Docs Hub, are a Business-and-above behavior in ClickUp Help. Guests see what you share with them.

How much do ClickUp Docs cost?

Docs themselves are not a separate product. You pay for the ClickUp plan, and for AI if you want Brain to draft or summarize pages. Prices below are from ClickUp's pricing page, checked October 2026, and match the figures in our ClickUp pricing guide.

PlanPriceDocs and storage
Free Forever$0Collaborative Docs. 1 wiki. 60MB Workspace storage
Unlimited$7 per user/month billed annually ($10 monthly)1 wiki. Unlimited file storage
Business$12 per user/month billed annually ($19 monthly)1 wiki. Private Docs on Business and up. Unlimited file storage

ClickUp Help separately says Business Plus can create unlimited wikis and can protect Docs and pages. That plan is not in the four-tier price list above, so check the live pricing page if your billing screen shows it.

File attachments are what count against storage. ClickUp's pricing FAQ says tasks themselves do not. On Free Forever the cap is 60MB for the Workspace, including files on Docs. Paid plans list unlimited file storage.

ClickUp Brain can find, write, edit and summarize Docs, and it treats wikis as the preferred source. Brain AI is an add-on at $9 per user/month on the pricing page. You do not need it to write or organize Docs.

A practical setup is small. One wiki for how the team works. One Doc template for project briefs. Relationships from those Docs to the Lists that hold the work. Add pages only when someone will look for them again. The ClickUp review covers the rest of the product if you are still comparing tools.

Frequently asked questions

Does ClickUp have docs?

Yes. ClickUp Docs are available on every plan, and guests can use them. You can also mark a Doc as a wiki, which ClickUp treats as the source of truth.

What is the difference between a ClickUp Doc and a wiki?

A wiki is a Doc prioritized as the source of truth. ClickUp Help says that, unless a limit says otherwise, anything that applies to Docs also applies to wikis.

How many wikis does ClickUp allow?

ClickUp's pricing comparison lists 1 wiki on Free Forever, Unlimited and Business. Help says Business Plus can create unlimited wikis, and saving a wiki as a template counts as creating one.

Can guests edit ClickUp Docs?

Yes. Guests can use Docs, and in Docs Hub they can see, edit and delete Docs and wikis that have been shared with them.

Can ClickUp Docs replace Notion?

For project teams that want the brief next to the tasks, often yes. Notion is the stronger choice when the wiki and databases are the center of the work.
