Short answer

ClickUp reminders are small action items that do not need a task. They are on every plan, including for guests. A new reminder starts in the Inbox Later tab and moves to Primary when it is due. Delegating a reminder to someone else requires the Unlimited plan or above.

A ClickUp reminder is a small follow-up that does not deserve a task. ClickUp Help describes them that way: smaller action items, for you or for someone else, with a due date. They are on every plan. Everyone, including guests, can use them. They show up in Inbox, and they exist only in the Workspace where you created them.

That last line matters if you work in more than one Workspace. A reminder you create in a client Workspace does not follow you into your own. The ClickUp hub links Inbox, tasks, and the mobile app if you are still deciding where follow-ups should live.

What is a ClickUp reminder?

A reminder has a name, a due date, and a place in Inbox. Help's path is specific. You create it, it lands in the Later tab, and it moves to the Primary tab when the due date and time arrive. Messages and comments you save for Later stay in Later until you clear them yourself. A reminder does not. The due time is what moves it.

You can add a description, an attachment, a recurrence, and a notification schedule on the creation methods that offer those fields. Not every method offers every field. The keyboard shortcut and the toolbar do. A "remind me about this task" action is a notification time, not a full new reminder form.

There is a second kind, and Help names it. A reminder created from My Tasks or from a Profile is a legacy reminder. It is available from My Tasks or your Profile. You are not notified of it in Inbox. Legacy reminders are tied to your account, not to one Workspace. Help says there is no way to migrate them. If you want the Inbox behavior, use a method that creates an Inbox reminder.

Prices below, where a plan name needs a dollar amount, are from our tool data, checked in October 2026. Free Forever is $0. Unlimited is $7 per user per month billed annually ($10 monthly).

How do you create a ClickUp reminder?

Help documents several paths. Keyboard shortcuts have to be enabled before the shortcut works.

Where you startWhat Help says you get
Option + R on Mac, or Alt + R on PCAn Inbox reminder. Name it, set a due date, optionally describe it, recur it, delegate it, attach a file, or set notifications
Toolbar create icon, then ReminderThe same Inbox reminder fields
AI Command Bar (Cmd + K on Mac, Ctrl + K on PC), type create, then Create New ReminderAn Inbox reminder with the same optional fields
Task ellipsis, Remind me in InboxA time to be notified about that task. Natural language, a preset, or a custom date
Chat message ellipsis, Remind me in InboxThe same notification schedule for that message
Comment ellipsis, Remind me in InboxAn Inbox reminder that includes the comment text and a link to the task. Help says this reminder is independent of the comment
My Tasks, plus on Today or Next in the Reminders or My Work cardA legacy reminder. Not in Inbox
Profile, Tasks tab, plus on Today or NextA legacy reminder. Not in Inbox

The task, Chat, and comment actions are how you stop a thread from getting lost. You are not building a second task. You are asking Inbox to surface that item at a time you choose.

On the phone, Help says you tap the plus icon at the bottom of Home, Inbox, My Tasks, or a page under More, then Reminder. The due date defaults to today. Attachments have a 1 GB file size limit. You cannot create reminders in Offline Mode, and Help says you cannot recover a deleted reminder. The mobile app guide covers what else the phone can and cannot do. Whiteboards and Gantt stay on the web. Reminders do not.

Help also says Brain, and Agents that have reminder tools turned on, can create, find, change, complete, or delete reminders from a plain sentence. Brain is ClickUp's AI add-on. Our data prices that add-on from $9 per user per month. ClickUp works without it. The write-up is ClickUp AI.

Where do ClickUp reminders show up?

Inbox is the live list for current reminders. Later holds them until they are due. Primary holds them once the due date and time arrive. If a reminder never moves, check that it is an Inbox reminder and not a legacy one sitting on My Tasks.

The Reminders card on the My Tasks page (formerly Home) sorts reminders into Today, Overdue, and Next. Hover a reminder for the actions Help lists:

ActionWhat it does
ReorderDrag the handle to change the order
Attach FileAdd a file
Add to ListTurn the reminder into a task on a List
DelegateHand it to someone else
Notify meOn due date, 10 minutes before, 1 hour before, Custom, or Don't notify
DeleteRemove it. Deleting a recurring reminder does not stop future ones
Snooze ReminderPick a new due date and time
DoneMark it complete

The Done tab on that card lists completed reminders. The Delegated tab lists incomplete reminders you have handed to other people. Help also says reminder notifications are managed one by one. They do not follow the notification settings you set for tasks. A task you muted can still have a reminder that pings you.

Add to List is the exit ramp. A follow-up that grew a checklist, an assignee outside a quick delegate, or a client-visible status should be a task. Recurring tasks are the tool when the work itself repeats, with statuses and a home List.

How do recurring ClickUp reminders work?

Recurring reminders are on every plan, and every role can create them. Not every creation method offers the recurrence control. When it is there, open the due date, click Set Recurring, pick a schedule, and save. The small calendar previews the dates.

ScheduleWhat Help says
DailyEvery day, with an option to skip weekends. A daily reminder does not appear in Home until the next morning
WeeklyOnce a week on the day you choose
MonthlyThe same date, a weekday such as the first Friday, the first day of the month, or the last day
YearlyOnce a year on the day you choose
Days afterA number of days after you mark the reminder complete
CustomEvery few days, selected weekdays, selected weeks, or selected days of the year

You also set how long it lasts: recur forever, repeat a set number of times, or end on a date. Help's natural language examples include "Every Monday at 9 am", "On Thursdays", "Until September 23, 2024", and "For 3 weeks".

Only the next occurrence shows in Inbox. Clear it, and the following one appears. To stop the series, open the recurring settings and choose Don't Recur. For an Inbox reminder, Help says to hover it, click the Snooze icon, then the Recurs button. For a legacy reminder, hover it in My Tasks and use the recurring icon. Deleting one occurrence from the Reminders card does not end the series.

Use a recurring reminder for a nudge, such as "send the invoice" or "check the form." Use a recurring task when the work needs a status, a List, and a record of what happened last time.

Can you delegate a ClickUp reminder?

A new reminder is assigned to you. Delegation is how you hand that nudge to a teammate without opening a task. Help says reminders can be delegated on the Unlimited plan and above. Guests with full edit permissions can create reminders and cannot delegate them. Not every creation method shows the delegate control.

While you are creating one, click your avatar and pick a person from the Delegate Reminder dropdown, then finish creating it. On a reminder that already exists, the Reminders card has a Delegate action. Unlimited is $7 per user per month billed annually in our data, or $10 if you pay monthly. If the only reason to upgrade is one shared nudge a week, a task assigned on the free plan may be the simpler object. Delegation earns the paid plan when the team lives in reminders and should not be minting tasks for every ping.

When should a reminder stay a reminder?

Keep it a reminder when the outcome is a single nudge: call someone, look at a file, reopen a task on Thursday. You do not need a status, a custom field, or a view.

Turn it into a task, with Add to List or by creating the task directly, when more than one person will work it, when a client should see the status, or when you will track time. Dependencies, sprints, and dashboards read tasks. They do not read Inbox reminders.

A practical split for a small team: personal follow-ups stay as Inbox reminders, client delivery stays as tasks in a List, and anything you would be upset to lose goes to a task, because Help says deleted reminders cannot be recovered on mobile. The free plan is enough to start. Move to Unlimited when you need to delegate those nudges, or when the rest of Unlimited is already on your list. ClickUp pricing is the plan table.
