Short answer
Basecamp uses flat monthly pricing with no per user fees. Freelancer is $25 a month, Studio is $59, Pro is $99, and Unlimited is $299, billed annually. The free plan covers 1 project, 1GB of storage, and up to 5 users. Our data says paid tiers have project and storage limits and does not publish those caps.
Basecamp pricing in our data is a flat bill. Freelancer costs $25 a month. Studio costs $59 a month. Pro costs $99 a month. Unlimited costs $299 a month. Those four are billed annually, and none of them adds a per user fee. A free plan covers 1 project, 1GB of storage, and up to 5 users. Our data says each paid tier has project and storage limits of its own, and it does not publish the numbers.
Those figures were checked in October 2026. Confirm the current project caps, storage caps, and any rate that is not billed annually on the official Basecamp pricing page before you pick a tier. The product summary is the Basecamp profile and the Basecamp review.
What is Basecamp pricing by plan?
Basecamp sells the company a monthly price. It does not sell a seat. That is the whole pricing story our data is willing to tell. It does not publish a feature checklist that unlocks row by row, and this page will not invent one.
| Plan | Price in our data | What our data says about it |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 project, 1GB of storage, up to 5 users |
| Freelancer | $25 a month, billed annually | Flat. No per user fee. Project and storage limits apply, and the caps are not in our data |
| Studio | $59 a month, billed annually | The next flat tier, with its own unpublished project and storage limits |
| Pro | $99 a month, billed annually | The next flat tier |
| Unlimited | $299 a month, billed annually | The top published tier. The name is the plan name in our data, not a promise about every limit |
Annual totals at those rates, before tax and before any offer Basecamp shows at checkout:
| Plan | Per month | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | $25 | $300 |
| Studio | $59 | $708 |
| Pro | $99 | $1,188 |
| Unlimited | $299 | $3,588 |
A company of 4 and a company of 20 pay the same Freelancer invoice if both fit inside that tier's project and storage limits. Our data does not say that a company of 20 will fit. The flat price is the bill when the tier fits. The unpublished cap is why you read Basecamp's pricing page before you treat $25 as the rate for the whole company.
Our product notes describe what you are paying for: to-do lists, card tables, message boards, group chat, docs, file storage, schedules, and client access. The same notes say the tool skips Gantt dependencies and workload planning, keeps customization light, and offers fewer integrations than the larger platforms. Named integrations in our data are Zapier, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Slack through integrations. If you are buying Basecamp for a dependency graph or a capacity plan, the flat price does not add those features. Our data says they are outside the product.
What does the free Basecamp plan include?
Our data calls out three limits and stops: 1 project, 1GB of storage, and up to 5 users. A sixth person needs a paid tier. A second project needs a paid tier. There is no seat bundle to calculate, because the free plan is already a hard count.
Other free plans in our October 2026 data, for a sense of scale:
| Tool | Free plan note in our data |
|---|---|
| Basecamp | 1 project, 1GB, up to 5 users |
| ClickUp Free Forever | Unlimited members, 60MB of storage, limits on Spaces, forms, and whiteboards |
| Trello | Up to 10 collaborators and 10 boards per Workspace, plus 250 automation runs a month |
| Asana Personal | Limited to 2 users |
Basecamp's free plan is a real project with a few people, then a wall. ClickUp's free plan is the opposite shape: many people, a small storage cap, and feature meters. Trello pricing is the closer "start on a board" comparison if 10 boards would cover the year. Neither free plan includes Basecamp's message board model or ClickUp's doc and dashboard depth in unlimited form.
How does flat pricing change the bill as you add people?
Per user tools get more expensive as the roster grows. Basecamp's published rates do not. The comparison below uses annual list prices from our data. It assumes the Basecamp tier you pick actually allows the projects you have. If it does not, you move to the next flat row, not to a per person surcharge.
ClickUp Unlimited is $7 per user per month billed annually, which is $84 per person per year. ClickUp Business is $12 per user per month billed annually, which is $144 per person per year. The monthly rates, if you skip the annual discount, are $10 and $19. Those ClickUp figures are in ClickUp pricing.
| People | Basecamp Freelancer per year | Basecamp Studio per year | ClickUp Unlimited per year | ClickUp Business per year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $300 | $708 | $420 | $720 |
| 10 | $300 | $708 | $840 | $1,440 |
| 20 | $300 | $708 | $1,680 | $2,880 |
Read the $300 column as "if Freelancer's project cap covers you," not as "every 20 person company pays $300." At 5 people, ClickUp Unlimited at $420 is close to Freelancer at $300 and below Studio at $708. At 10 people, ClickUp Unlimited at $840 sits between Studio at $708 and Pro at $1,188. At 20 people, even ClickUp Business at $2,880 is more than Basecamp Pro at $1,188, and Basecamp Unlimited at $3,588 is still a fixed number while ClickUp Unlimited for 50 people would be 50 times $84, or $4,200.
Wrike pricing is the other "the invoice is not headcount times the sticker" case. Wrike Team is $10 per user per month billed annually and sells seats in bundles. Basecamp skips the per user rate entirely. Different mechanics, same homework: ask what you will actually be allowed to create on the tier you can afford.
A few neighboring annual rates from the same data set, so the flat bill has company: monday.com Basic is about $9 per seat per month, Asana Starter is $10.99 per user per month, and Trello Standard is $5 per user per month. A 10 person floor is about $1,080, $1,318.80, and $600. Match those to Basecamp only after you know which Basecamp tier has enough projects.
Which Basecamp plan should you buy?
- Stay on the free plan for a single project with up to 5 people and 1GB of files.
- Price Freelancer at $25 a month, $300 a year, when the work still fits the project and storage limits on that tier. Get those limits from Basecamp, not from this page.
- Step to Studio at $59 ($708 a year) or Pro at $99 ($1,188 a year) when the lower tier's project cap is the thing you outgrow. The bill stays flat. The jump is one tier, not one employee.
- Price Unlimited at $299 a month, $3,588 a year, when you are a larger group that wants one company price and you have confirmed that tier's limits.
- If you need dependencies, workload, time tracking, or a deeper doc system, price ClickUp Unlimited at $7 and ClickUp Business at $12 on the same annual basis. The direct comparison is ClickUp vs Basecamp. Asana vs Basecamp is the other simple tracker. Basecamp alternatives collects the short list, and the ClickUp hub collects the setup guides if you move.
Basecamp is a coherent bill for a team that wants message boards, to-dos, a schedule, and client access, and that would rather pay once than pay per person. Teams that need dependencies, workload, or time tracking will find those in ClickUp. Our data says that depth is outside Basecamp. For that second team, ClickUp's per user rates buy the planning tools, and the flat Basecamp number is no longer the deciding figure.
