Short answer

ClickUp Clips are screen recordings you make inside ClickUp, plus shorter Voice Clips. You can attach a Clip to a task, comment on the timeline, and share a link. Free Forever and Unlimited include 10 uses. Business and above include unlimited uses. A Clip link is open to anyone who has it.

ClickUp Clips are how you show a screen instead of describing it. You record inside ClickUp, the Clip lands in Clips Hub, and you can attach it to a task, drop the link in a Doc, or comment on a moment in the video. Voice Clips are the audio-only version, with a shorter cap. This is the async feedback path: a two-minute walkthrough instead of a meeting that exists to share a screen.

Clips are not a webinar tool and they are not comments on a file you already exported. Pinned notes on an attached video are Proofing, covered in ClickUp for video production. Clips are the recording you make. The ClickUp hub links Chat and Docs, which are the other places that recording will end up.

What are ClickUp Clips?

Help describes Clips as recordings of team trainings, project plans, feedback, and similar walkthroughs, without leaving ClickUp. You turn the feature on as a ClickApp named Clip: Record & Share, from the App Center, under All ClickApps.

You can start a recording from four places Help lists:

  • The Quick Action menu, then Clips
  • The plus icon at the upper right of the Home Sidebar, then Clip
  • The video icon in a comment draft
  • New Clip in Clips Hub

Clips Hub is the library. New Clips are added there automatically. The hub sidebar includes All Clips, Video Clips, Voice Clips, SyncUp recordings, and AI Notetaker recordings. Help says the hub only displays Clips, Voice Clips, and SyncUps that you recorded. It is your library, not a team archive of everyone else's videos.

You can also record from a browser, the desktop app, or the mobile app. The limits article lists recording and viewing as available on all three, and Clips Hub as available on web and desktop, not on mobile. The ClickApps introduction still says Clip is available on Chrome and Firefox only. If the record button is missing, check the browser against that note before you assume the ClickApp is off.

On a Mac, Help says Clips are supported on macOS Sequoia and above, and you need to allow screen recording. The first time you record in a browser, ClickUp asks for microphone access.

How do you record a Clip?

After the ClickApp is on, the recording steps are the same idea from each entry point.

  1. Choose what to share: your entire screen, a window, or the current browser tab.
  2. Pick a resolution. The default Help names is 1080p.
  3. Pick an audio input. On the desktop app, you can also record yourself.
  4. Click Record Clip, or use Cmd + Option + S on a Mac or Ctrl + Alt + S on a PC.
  5. Confirm the share prompt your browser shows, if it asks.
  6. After a three-second countdown, the recording starts. You can restart, pause, or delete it from the comment controls or the toolbar at the top of the Workspace.
  7. Stop with the stop icon in the upper right.

The Clip created panel lets you play it, change volume or playback speed, open it fullscreen, create a task with the Clip attached, open it in a new tab, or copy a link. The Clip is saved in Clips Hub either way.

Voice Clips are the audio path in a comment when you do not need the screen. The limit is 20 minutes, against 45 minutes for a screen Clip.

RecordingLimit Help listsTypical use
Screen Clip45 minutesA walkthrough, a training, feedback on a flow
Voice Clip20 minutesA spoken note on a task, without showing the screen
EitherKept until you delete itLeaving the company does not delete your old Clips

A 45-minute Clip is a long meeting in disguise. If you need a transcript, an agenda, and a decision, write the decision in a Doc and keep the Clip as the tour. Remote teams that replace status meetings with updates should read ClickUp for remote teams before they record everything.

Anyone with the link can open a Clip. Copy the link only into the task, the Doc, or the people who should see that screen.

How do comments, sharing, and transcripts work?

Comments sit on the video timeline. When you view a Clip, the progress bar shows those comments, and each one has a timestamp you can click to play from that moment.

From a comment, hover the Clip, open it in a new tab or preview, and click Add comment. Click the frame where the note belongs, type it, and send. Help says comments start assigned to anyone and can be assigned to a person or a Team before you send. You can reply with a Voice Clip. The comment shows in the Clip's activity and in the task activity. Assignees and followers are notified.

The role table is stricter than recording. The Clips limits article says guests, members, and admins can record Clips and Voice Clips, use Clips Hub, and view Clips shared with them. Commenting is listed for members and admins, not guests. The ClickApps introduction still says guests cannot create Clips. Those two Help pages disagree. Confirm the button in your Workspace before you tell a guest they can record or that they can comment.

Sharing from a comment copies the Clip URL. Pasting that URL into a task description, a comment, or a Doc embeds the Clip. There is no separate "people in the Workspace only" switch described on the recording article. The sentence to plan around is Help's: anyone with the link can access it.

Download from an expanded Clip in a comment, using Download in the upper right, or from Clips Hub. If the AI ClickApp is on, Clips get an automatic title, and the creator can rename one from the comment or the hub. Transcription is the same switch: with the AI ClickApp enabled, Brain transcribes Clips, the words play along in the expanded view, and Transcript in the sidebar shows the full text with timestamps. Click a snippet to jump. You can copy one snippet or the whole transcript. Brain can search transcripts of Clips you created when you ask it a question. AI is not part of the base Unlimited price. In our tool data it is an add-on from $9 per user/month. Prices checked October 2026.

ClickUp Chat is still the right place for a short question. A Clip is the right place when the answer is "let me show you." Do not record a Clip to say yes.

Which plan and storage limits apply?

PlanClip usesStorage note from Help
Free Forever10 usesClips count toward Workspace storage, which is 60MB
Unlimited10 usesPaid plans include unlimited Workspace storage
Business, Business Plus, EnterpriseUnlimited usesSame unlimited storage

Unlimited at $7 per user/month billed annually ($10 monthly) removes the storage cap and does not remove the 10-use cap. Business at $12 billed annually ($19 monthly) is the plan that includes unlimited Clip uses. Enterprise is custom. The 10 uses on Unlimited are the surprise if you bought that plan for storage and then hit a recording limit.

Clips from someone who left stay until a person deletes them. That is useful for a training you still need, and it is a reason to delete a recording that shows a customer's data when that person offboards. The hub will not show you their library. The link, if it was shared, still works for anyone who has it.

When is a Clip the wrong tool?

Use a Clip for a screen you would otherwise narrate live. Skip it when:

  • The note is one sentence. A task comment is faster, and it does not spend a use.
  • The thing to mark up is an exported video, image, or PDF. Proofing pins the comment on that file. A Clip of you talking over a download is a second copy.
  • The audience is a guest and you have not checked whether they can comment. Members can. The limits article says guests cannot comment on Clips.
  • The content is private and you are about to paste the link in a wide channel. The link is the permission.

How to use ClickUp is the Workspace around this. Turn the ClickApp on, record one Clip on a real task, and put the decision in the comment under it. If you need a tenth recording in a month on Unlimited, that is the moment to look at Business, not the moment to record the eleventh and hope the cap moved.
