Short answer
ClickUp can track a video from brief to delivery: one task, statuses for the stages, a Doc for the script, dates on a calendar, and Proofing comments on an attached MP4, WEBM, or Ogg file. The editor still lives outside ClickUp. Free Forever storage is 60MB, so masters do not belong there.
ClickUp for video production is a tracker for the job, not an editing app. One video is a task. The status says whether you are in the brief, the shoot, the edit, or the review. The script lives in a Doc. The shoot and the delivery have dates. Notes on the cut are comments pinned to an attached file, at a timestamp.
That is a different setup from a creator who only needs idea, draft, and publish date. If that is you, use ClickUp for content creators. This page is for a piece that has a shoot, an edit, and a person who must approve the cut. The ClickUp hub links the views and the pricing behind those choices.
Who should use ClickUp for video production?
Use this when more than one person touches the video, or when you lose the brief in email. A freelance editor with a few clients, a two-person studio, and an in-house producer who hands cuts to a reviewer all fit.
It is too much if you record and publish alone with no approval step. A calendar and a checklist are enough until a reviewer asks "which version is current?"
Notion is the stronger home for a long script library if the writing is the product and the task list is secondary. ClickUp fits when the script, the date, and the review status need to be the same task. Trello is the easier board if you only want columns and you will not attach a cut or write the script in the same tool. Our data treats Trello as simpler and ClickUp as the broader workspace.
Prices checked October 2026. Free Forever is $0, with 60MB of storage. Unlimited is $7 per user/month billed annually ($10 monthly). Business is $12 billed annually ($19 monthly). Enterprise is custom. Storage is the first limit a video team hits, because the review file has to be attached if you want comments on the picture.
What does a video pipeline look like?
Keep one List for active videos, or one List per series if the statuses would otherwise mix. Set the statuses on the Space so a second series inherits them. Custom statuses inherit downward until you override them.
ClickUp does not publish a video status template. The set below is a workable one that matches how status groups behave. Not Started is a group you turn on. Done stays visible and is not treated as overdue. Closed hides in List view until you click Show closed. You cannot add extra Closed statuses. You can rename them.
| Status | Group | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Brief | Not Started | The job is defined and not started |
| Script | Active | The script or shot list is in a Doc |
| Production | Active | The shoot or the record is happening |
| Edit | Active | The cut is in progress |
| Review | Active | Someone is marking up the attached file |
| Delivered | Done | The file was handed off and should stay visible |
| Complete | Closed | Archived. Hidden until you show closed tasks |
A YouTube series that has no shoot can drop Production. Do not add a status you will not move. Five honest columns beat eight that all mean "in progress."
The script belongs in a ClickUp Doc, linked to the task. Docs are on every plan, including for guests. The task is the status and the date. The Doc is the words. A shot list that is only checkboxes can live on the task instead. Subtasks vs checklists is the split: a checklist item is a line you tick, and a subtask is a task with its own assignee and date. Use a checklist for "pack the lav, charge batteries." Use a subtask when a pickup shoot needs its own day.
If the edit cannot start until the shoot task is done, link them. ClickUp task dependencies are on every plan. A task either blocks another or is waiting on one. ClickUp treats the blocker as completed for this purpose when it is in a Done status. Dependencies are not in the mobile app.
Dates go on the task so they show in Calendar view. All plans include unlimited uses. A task appears when it has a start date, a due date, or an active Date custom field. Put the shoot on a start and due date if it occupies a day. Put delivery on the due date if that is the promise. Subtasks stay off the calendar unless you show them and the subtask itself has a date.
How do you review a cut with Proofing?
Export a review file and attach it to the task. ClickUp Help's Proofing article supports video comments on MP4, WEBM, and Ogg in Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. Open the attachment from the task activity, click Add comment, and click the frame. The comment stores the timestamp and shows on the playback bar. Assign it, or leave it as Anyone.
That only works on a file attached to the task. Proofing is not available for cloud storage attachments. A cloud storage link can sit in the Doc for the master. It will not take pinned comments. Keep the camera master in your storage. Attach a compressed review export to ClickUp.
Proofing includes 100 uses on Free Forever and on Unlimited. Unlimited uses start on Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise. Guests can use Proofing. The design review article, which uses the same feature, says guests with comment permissions and above can use it. Comment-only guests are a paid-plan permission. On Free Forever, a guest gets full edit on whatever you share. Guest access and the client portal pattern are how you share the review List without sharing every other client.
ClickUp Clips are a different object. A Clip is a screen or voice recording you make in ClickUp, for a walkthrough of what you want changed. Proofing is a comment on the cut itself. Use Proofing when the note is "this frame." Use a Clip when you need to show a sequence of clicks or narrate a note. Anyone with a Clip link can open it, so do not put a private cut's only copy in a Clip you then paste into a public message.
Assigned Proofing comments show under the task's Action Items, and comments assigned to you show in Home. Resolve them when the frame is fixed. Show resolved comments if you need the history of what the reviewer asked for.
Where do hours and client requests go?
Log edit time on the task if you bill it. Native time tracking is a trial on Free Forever and is included from Unlimited, at $7 per user/month billed annually. The setup is in ClickUp time tracking. How to track billable hours covers the client side of that log.
New jobs from outside the team can use a Form. Each submission creates a task. File uploads through a form are limited to 25 MB, so the form should collect the brief, not the footage. Details are in ClickUp Forms.
Free Forever's 60MB Workspace storage includes attachments and Clip recordings. A short review MP4 might fit. A week of them will not. Paid plans include unlimited Workspace storage. That is the upgrade that matches video, before you buy a higher plan for views you will not open. Confirm guest seats on the pricing page if clients will comment. The summary on this site is ClickUp pricing.
What should you set up first?
- Create one List and the statuses in the table. Turn on Not Started if Brief should sit before active work.
- Add a Doc template for the script, or one Doc you duplicate. Link it from the task.
- Put a due date on delivery and a date on the shoot.
- Attach one review MP4 and leave two timestamped comments before you invite a client.
- Add a dependency from the edit to the shoot only when that wait is real.
Run one video through Brief to Delivered before you add a second List. The pipeline is working when the reviewer opens the attachment from the task, not a file named final_v7 in a chat thread.

Frequently asked questions
Can ClickUp edit video?
No. ClickUp tracks the job and can comment on an attached video. You still edit in your editing app. Proofing supports MP4, WEBM, and Ogg attached to the task.
How do you leave notes on a cut in ClickUp?
Attach the video to the task, open it, click Add comment, and click the frame. Help says the comment stores the timestamp and shows on the playback bar. Cloud storage links cannot be proofed.
What is the difference between Proofing and ClickUp Clips?
Proofing comments on a video file you attached. A Clip is a screen or voice recording you make inside ClickUp, saved in Clips Hub, with its own plan limits.
Where should the script live?
In a ClickUp Doc linked to the task. The task holds status and dates. The Doc holds the script or shot list. Docs are on every plan.
Is ClickUp Free Forever enough for video files?
Usually no, if you attach cuts. Free Forever includes 60MB of Workspace storage. Paid plans include unlimited Workspace storage. A review export may fit on the free plan. A camera master will not.
