Short answer
ClickUp Free Forever is $0 with unlimited members and tasks, 60MB of storage and 5 Spaces. Unlimited is $7 per user/month billed annually ($10 monthly) and adds unlimited storage and Spaces, native time tracking, Goals, Chat and guest permissions.
ClickUp Free Forever costs nothing and is enough for many solo users. Unlimited is the first paid plan, at $7 per user/month billed annually or $10 billed monthly. The upgrade is worth it when a specific free limit blocks the work, not because the paid plan is the default. Prices below were checked in October 2026. Confirm them on the ClickUp pricing page before you buy. The full ladder, including Business and Enterprise, is in ClickUp pricing.
How do ClickUp Free and Unlimited compare?
Both plans include unlimited tasks. Free Forever also includes unlimited members at no charge. Unlimited charges every member. Guests are a separate rule, covered below.
Figures in this table come from ClickUp's pricing comparison and Help Center.
| Free Forever | Unlimited | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $7 per user/month annually, or $10 monthly |
| Members | Unlimited | Unlimited, billed per member |
| Tasks | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Storage | 60MB | Unlimited |
| Spaces | 5 | Unlimited |
| Lists per Space | 40 | 200 |
| Folders per Space | 100 | 200 |
| Forms | 1 | Unlimited forms |
| Whiteboards | 3 | 10 |
| Wikis | 1 | 1 |
| Active automation rules | 5 | 500 |
| Automation executions | 100 | 1,000 |
| Chat | Trial, 30-day message history | Unlimited messages and history |
| Guests | Unlimited, full access only | Permission-controlled seats, plus unlimited view-only guests |
| Time tracking | Trial | Native time tracking included |
| Goals and Portfolios | Trial | Included |
| Gantt | Trial | Included |
| Custom fields | Basic manager, fields marked as a trial | Unlimited custom fields |
| Dashboards | 60 uses | 100 uses |
| Activity view | 1 day | 7 days |
| Teams | 2 | 3 |
ClickUp's pricing page says file attachments are what count against storage. Tasks themselves do not. "Uses" are cumulative for the Workspace. They do not reset. When you hit a use limit you keep existing items, and you cannot create or edit new ones of that feature until you change plan.
Dashboards are the easy item to misread. ClickUp Help lists 60 dashboard uses on Free Forever and 100 on Unlimited. A use includes creating, viewing, editing or removing a dashboard or card, and those uses do not reset. Unlimited uses, with no cap, start on Business. Moving from Free to Unlimited raises the cap. It does not remove it.

What do you get on Free Forever?
ClickUp's pricing page lists these on Free Forever: 60MB storage, unlimited tasks, unlimited members, two-factor authentication, collaborative Docs, Kanban boards, sprint management, the basic Custom Field Manager, in-app video recording and 24/7 support.
The structural caps are the ones people hit first: 5 Spaces, 40 Lists per Space, 1 form, 1 wiki and 3 whiteboards. Gantt, Goals, timelines, workload, time tracking, email in ClickUp and Chat messages are marked as trials on the free plan. Sprint points are also marked as a trial on Free and on Unlimited.
That is still a working tool. A freelancer can run clients as Folders inside one or two Spaces, use List and Board views, and write Docs. Is ClickUp free? walks through who should stay there.
Free guests are unlimited and unpaid, and they receive full create and edit permissions on whatever you share. You cannot set them to view only or comment only. ClickUp also says people who use your organization's email domain are not treated as guests. They are billed as members once you are on a paid plan.
What does Unlimited add?
ClickUp describes Unlimited as everything in Free Forever, plus:
- Unlimited Spaces, Folders and forms
- Unlimited storage
- Native time tracking
- Goals and Portfolio management
- Guests with permission control
- ClickUp Chat
- Email in ClickUp
- Integrations such as Slack, HubSpot and Google Drive
The comparison table adds numbers to that list. Lists rise from 40 to 200 per Space. Folders rise from 100 to 200 per Space. Whiteboards rise from 3 to 10. Automation rises from 5 active rules and 100 executions to 500 active rules and 1,000 executions. Chat message history goes from 30 days to unlimited. Activity view goes from 1 day to 7 days. The wiki count stays at 1, so do not upgrade only to add wikis.
Guest seats on Unlimited are not unlimited in the permission-controlled sense. ClickUp's pricing page says a Workspace with one paid user gets 5 of those seats, plus 2 seats for each additional paid user. View-only guests are unlimited on paid plans. If you need a guest seat and you have none left, that person is billed like a member.
Time tracking is the other common reason to move. The native tracker, estimates and timesheets are listed with Unlimited. The free plan only offers a trial. How the tracker works is covered in ClickUp time tracking.
When is the free plan enough?
Stay on Free Forever when all of these are true:
- You have few file uploads, or you link files from Google Drive or Dropbox.
- Five Spaces cover the business. Use Folders for clients and projects.
- One form and three whiteboards are enough.
- Clients can have full edit access, or you do not invite them.
- You do not need native time tracking, Goals or ongoing Chat history.
- You can live with 5 automations.
Solo freelancers and very small teams often meet that list. The pricing page lists Free Forever at $0 on both monthly and yearly billing.
When should you upgrade to Unlimited?
Upgrade when one limit is already in the way:
- Storage is near 60MB and the files need to live on tasks.
- You need a sixth Space, or more than one form.
- Clients should comment or view without editing everything.
- You bill from tracked time.
- You want Goals, Gantt without a trial cap, or Chat as the daily conversation.
- The team is hitting 100 automation executions.
Do the math before you switch. Unlimited is per member, and the whole Workspace upgrades together. Occasional helpers who share your email domain will be paid seats, not free guests.
| Team size | Free Forever | Unlimited, annual billing | Unlimited, monthly billing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 person | $0 | $7 per month | $10 per month |
| 5 people | $0 | $35 per month | $50 per month |
| 10 people | $0 | $70 per month | $100 per month |
Annual billing is $7 instead of $10 per user. ClickUp's pricing page says you can request a full refund within 30 days if the paid plan is not what you needed. Canceling keeps the current plan until the end of the cycle unless you downgrade immediately. Each Workspace is billed on its own.
AI is not part of either plan. Brain AI is $9 per user/month, and the broader Everything AI bundle is $28 per user/month, with extra credits for heavier use. Limited AI is available on Free. Buying Unlimited does not include the add-on.
What still requires Business?
Unlimited is the wrong target if the missing feature sits higher.
Business is $12 per user/month billed annually, or $19 billed monthly. ClickUp's pricing page says it adds unlimited dashboards with advanced cards, workload management, mind maps, Google SSO, more guest seats and a higher automation allowance (unlimited active rules and 5,000 executions). Timelines and workload are marked as trials on both Free and Unlimited. Sprint points are marked as a trial on both as well. Sprint dashboard cards for velocity are documented on Business and above in ClickUp Help.
If you mainly need a cleaner Board and more storage, Unlimited is the step. If you need reporting across many projects, read the Business line in ClickUp pricing before you assume Unlimited is the last upgrade. Is ClickUp worth it? puts that cost next to the tools it can replace.
How do these plans compare with other free tiers?
ClickUp's free plan is unusual because members are not capped. Asana's free plan is limited to 2 users. monday.com free covers up to 2 seats. Trello allows up to 10 collaborators per Workspace, and Trello Standard is $5 per user/month billed annually, which is less than Unlimited. Those tools are the better fit when you want a simpler board or a more polished task list and you do not need Docs, Chat and time tracking together.
A longer list is in the best free project management software. For the product as a whole, see the ClickUp review.
Start on Free with one real project. Upgrade to Unlimited when storage, Spaces, guests or time tracking stop the work. Leave Business until dashboards, workload or sprint reporting are the actual requirement.
