Short answer
Yes. Trello's free plan allows up to 10 collaborators and 10 boards per Workspace, plus 250 automation runs per month. Standard starts at $5 per user/month billed annually. Calendar, Timeline, and Table views are on paid plans.
Yes. Trello has a free plan, and it is a real board, not a timed trial. You can run lists and cards with up to 10 collaborators and up to 10 boards in a Workspace, and you get 250 automation runs per month. The limits show up when the Workspace needs an 11th person, an 11th board, or views that are not a Kanban board.
Prices and limits below come from our tool data, checked in October 2026. Confirm them on the official Trello pricing page before you add people. If you want the product first, start with the Trello profile and the Trello review. This page answers the free-plan question.
Is Trello free?
Trello's free plan suits a person or a small group that thinks in columns. Cards move from one list to the next. Checklists, due dates, and attachments sit on the card. That is enough for a content pipeline, a personal task board, or a simple client tracker you can share with a handful of people.
Our data lists these free-plan caps:
- Up to 10 collaborators per Workspace.
- Up to 10 boards per Workspace.
- 250 automation runs per month, through Butler.
Calendar, Timeline, and Table views are listed on paid plans. Power-Ups extend the board, and some of what people expect from a bigger tool depends on those add-ons. The free plan does not pretend to be a full project system. Dependencies, workload, and cross-project reporting are the reasons teams leave, not the lack of a board.
Ten collaborators means the free Workspace can hold a real small team. Ten boards means you can separate a few projects before you pay. Those two numbers are more generous than a two-seat free plan. They are also a hard stop. An 11th teammate, or an 11th board you actually need, is a paid decision.
What does the Trello free plan include?
Use the free plan for work that is a board.
| Need | Free plan fit |
|---|---|
| One person, a few lists, cards with due dates | Strong fit |
| A small team, up to 10 people, sharing boards | Fits, until the 11th person |
| Up to 10 boards in one Workspace | Fits |
| Butler automation beyond 250 runs in a month | Runs out |
| Calendar, Timeline, or Table as the main view | Paid plans in our data |
| Dependencies, workload, or time tracking | Not what Trello is built for |
Trello is intentionally simple. You can open a board and move a card without a setup project. That ease is the reason to stay. The Trello alternatives page is the list people read when the board is no longer the whole job. Kanban vs Scrum is the method question if you are choosing a board style rather than a vendor.
How much does Trello cost after the free plan?
Paid pricing in our data, checked October 2026:
| Plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | What our data calls out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Up to 10 collaborators, 10 boards, 250 automation runs per month |
| Standard | $5 per user/month | $6 per user/month | The first paid tier |
| Premium | $10 per user/month | $12.50 per user/month | The mid paid tier |
| Enterprise | $17.50 per user/month | Our data lists the annual Enterprise price | Admin controls for larger Workspaces |
Standard is the cheapest paid seat in this set of tools. A team of 5 on Standard is $25 per month at the annual rate, or $30 if you pay month to month. A team of 10 is $50 annually or $60 monthly. Premium doubles the annual seat price to $10, so those same teams are $50 and $100 per month. Enterprise is $17.50 per user/month billed annually.
The bill is per user. A collaborator on the free plan is not the same decision as a paid seat. Once you need Standard, budget a seat for each person who should keep working in the Workspace, and confirm on the pricing page how guests or observers are counted. Our data does not spell out a separate guest price.
Paid plans are also where Calendar, Timeline, and Table views sit in our data. If the only reason you are upgrading is "I want a calendar of these cards," Standard is the tier to read first. If the reason is dependencies and reporting across many projects, a higher Trello tier still may not be the tool. Trello's own limits in our data call out basic reporting and workload tools, and a design that is not meant for heavy project management.
Who should stay on Trello's free plan?
Stay on free if all of these are true:
- The Workspace has 10 or fewer collaborators.
- You can live inside 10 boards.
- 250 automation runs a month covers the rules you actually use.
- The daily screen is a board, not a timeline or a table.
- You do not need native time tracking or a dependency chain.
Solo professionals and small teams with one pipeline fit that list. A content board with columns for idea, draft, review, and published can stay free for a long time. A personal task board can stay free indefinitely. The best free project management software roundup is the wider list if you are comparing free tiers before you commit.
Leave the free plan, or leave Trello, when one of the caps is the thing blocking the work. Do not pay Standard only because a pricing page exists. Pay when an 11th person needs access, an 11th board is a real project, or you want the paid views. Switch tools when the board metaphor is the problem.
How Trello's free plan compares
Free plans answer different questions. Trello answers "can a small group share boards?" ClickUp answers "can a larger group start on tasks without a seat fee?"
| Tool | Free plan, from our data | Paid starts at |
|---|---|---|
| Trello | Up to 10 collaborators, 10 boards, 250 automation runs per month | $5 per user/month billed annually (Standard) |
| ClickUp | Unlimited members, 60MB storage, limits on Spaces, forms, and whiteboards | $7 per user/month billed annually (Unlimited) |
| Asana | Free Personal plan, currently limited to 2 users | $10.99 per user/month billed annually |
| monday.com | Up to 2 seats, up to 3 boards and 3 docs | About $9 per seat/month on annual billing |
Prices checked October 2026. Is ClickUp free? is the page for the unlimited-member free plan. ClickUp vs Trello is the product comparison. Trello is easier to learn. ClickUp costs $2 more per user at the first paid tier and covers dependencies, docs, and time tracking that Trello does not try to be.
A team of 12 cannot stay on Trello's free plan, because of the 10-collaborator cap. The same 12 people can start on ClickUp Free Forever, with the storage and feature limits that plan has, and move to Unlimited at $7 per user/month billed annually when those limits get in the way. A team of 4 that only moves cards should stay on Trello and ignore the rest of this table.
If the work has already outgrown columns, ClickUp table view is the spreadsheet-style screen people look for, and importing a sheet into ClickUp is the path off a file. Neither is a reason to leave Trello while the board still matches the work.
How to choose
- Open one Workspace and one board for the real pipeline. Do not import every old project on day one.
- If you are under 10 people and under 10 boards, and a Kanban board is the view you want, stay on free.
- If you need Calendar, Timeline, or Table, read Standard at $5 per user/month billed annually before you assume the free plan includes them.
- If you need an 11th collaborator, dependencies, or time tracking, compare ClickUp on the ClickUp hub. The free plan has unlimited members. Unlimited is $7 per user/month billed annually.
- Re-check Trello's pricing page at checkout. The annual rate is the number in our data for Standard, Premium, and Enterprise.
