Short answer

Email in ClickUp is a ClickApp that sends and receives mail from a task. Replies show on the task. Free Forever includes one account and 100 uses. Unlimited adds unlimited use and scheduling. Business adds a second account, signatures, and templates. Guests cannot use it.

Email in ClickUp lets you write to someone outside the Workspace without leaving the task. Replies come back onto that task as comments, either threaded or as new comments, depending on a setting you choose when you turn the ClickApp on. Internal comments stay available in the same box: you switch between a comment for teammates and an email for everyone else.

It is not a separate inbox product. Your mail provider still stores the message. ClickUp keeps a copy on the task. The ClickUp hub links the sales and client workflows that usually need this.

Which plans include ClickUp Email?

ClickUp Help publishes the caps on the Email article. "Uses" is Help's word. That article does not define what counts as one use, so treat the free cap as a real limit and check the App Center before you promise a team that free email will cover them.

PlanIncluded accountsWhat else Help lists
Free Forever1, with 100 usesNo email scheduling
Unlimited1, unlimited useScheduling is available. Extra accounts can be purchased
Business and above2Signatures, email templates, and the option to remove the "Sent using ClickUp" watermark
Business Plus and EnterpriseSame account count as Business and aboveCustom email permissions for admins and members

Each email account you add can automatically transfer up to 100 contacts into ClickUp.

Extra accounts, on Unlimited and above, are listed at $2 per month or $24 per year. Help says the charge is prorated to the next renewal, and the Workspace needs a card on file. Admins and owners buy them from the Email Integration page or while composing. Empty slots drop off when the billing cycle renews. Free Forever is not in the purchase path Help describes.

Unlimited is $7 per user/month billed annually ($10 monthly). Business is $12 per user/month billed annually ($19 monthly). Those workspace prices were checked in October 2026 and are separate from the email-account add-on. See ClickUp pricing.

How do you turn Email in ClickUp on?

Owners and admins enable the ClickApp. Help's path:

  1. Open the App Center.
  2. In the left sidebar, click All ClickApps.
  3. Find Email and turn it on.
  4. Choose which Spaces get it.
  5. Choose whether emails land on the task as threaded replies or as new comments.

Then link an inbox. Members can do this from a task. Admins can also do it from Workspace settings.

From a task:

  1. Open the comment field and choose Email.
  2. In From, choose Link an email.
  3. Pick the provider and sign in.
  4. Set the display name and who in the Workspace may send from this account.
  5. Save.

Help's supported providers:

ProviderWhat Help says qualifies
Gmail (OAuth)A gmail.com address, signed in with Google
Microsoft 365 (OAuth)Paid Microsoft 365, including hybrid Exchange
Outlookhotmail.com, live.com, and outlook.com
IMAPOlder clients without OAuth, including some on-premises Exchange servers

An alias works if you can log into the email service with that alias. A shared address works if it has its own login. One connected account can be used by more than one person, but the person who connected it has to grant send permission first. You may have to sign in again when the provider or your company security policy asks for it.

Gmail and Microsoft each show a permissions screen during sign-in. Read it. Help notes that Microsoft access can fail with NAUTH_013 when the organization blocks third-party apps, or when permissions or ActiveSync settings are wrong. The fix is on the Microsoft side, not a second click in ClickUp.

How do you send and receive from a task?

After the ClickApp is on:

  1. Open the task comment.
  2. Choose Email instead of Comment.
  3. Fill To, and CC or BCC if you need them. If the task has an Email custom field, ClickUp suggests that address.
  4. Write the subject and the body. Add an attachment or a signature if your plan has signatures.
  5. Send, or open the arrow and pick a later date and time. Scheduling requires Unlimited or above.

The reply shows in the task activity and in your normal inbox. Help says you are notified only if ClickBot notifications are on, and only if you sent the original email or you follow the thread.

A few rules are easy to miss:

  • Deleting the message in your inbox does not delete the copy on the task.
  • If the recipient changes the subject, the reply does not return to ClickUp.
  • Attachment size follows the provider. Help gives Gmail's 25 MB limit as the example.
  • Signatures exist on Business and above. Each member can keep more than one, and one can be the default. You can edit a signature as HTML.
  • Email templates exist on the same plans. Help describes them as saved responses, with hiring and customer service as examples.
  • You can set a "send email as" name. Some providers ignore it and use the name on the mailbox.

Business Plus and Enterprise admins can turn two permissions on or off for members and admins: Send Email, and Add Email Accounts. Add Email Accounts turns Send Email on as well. Other combinations are allowed after that.

Write the first email from the task you want the thread to live on. A reply cannot hop to a different task because you changed your mind later.

How is this different from the Chrome extension and from Chat?

The Email ClickApp sends and receives inside ClickUp. The ClickUp Chrome extension is the other direction: while you are in Gmail, you attach a message to a task or create a task from it. Use the extension when the mail is already in the inbox. Use the ClickApp when you want the outgoing message to start on the task.

ClickUp Chat is for people in the Workspace. Email is for people who are not. Guests cannot use the Email ClickApp at all, even if they can comment on a shared task. If a client only needs to see status, a shared view is the better door. That pattern is in ClickUp client portal.

You can also create a task or add a comment by sending email into ClickUp. Help states that option on the Email article. Use it when the work arrives by mail and you do not want to retype it. For a form on your site, ClickUp Forms is the cleaner intake, because the questions are fixed.

Where Email in ClickUp helps, and where it does not

It helps when the conversation belongs to one piece of work: a lead, a support request, a client revision. Sales teams use it so the thread is on the deal. The weekly version of that is in ClickUp for sales teams.

It is a poor fit when you need open tracking, a shared team inbox with assignment rules, or mail that must stay in a dedicated support tool. ClickUp will not show you that a message was opened. A changed subject drops the reply out of the task. Those are Help Center limits, not settings you can toggle back on.

Common errors Help lists, if a send fails:

CodeWhat Help says
CONT_002Often an automation. Reauthorize the account or set it to Active
ACCESS_137You cannot send from that address. The account owner must change permissions
NAUTH_013The Microsoft organization denied mailbox access
NEMAIL_002Authorization failed. Remove the account and connect it again

Other tools still matter. Slack and Outlook are on ClickUp's integration list, and a full survey is in ClickUp integrations. Use those when the message should stay in Slack or in Outlook. Use Email in ClickUp when the message should stay on the task.
