Short answer
ClickUp user groups are called Teams. You can assign a Team to a task, mention it, or add it as a follower. Free Forever includes 2 teams and does not include Teams Hub. Unlimited includes 3 teams, Business includes 10, and Business Plus and Enterprise include unlimited teams. Sharing items with a Team starts on Business Plus.
ClickUp user groups are Teams. Help still files the docs under Teams (User Groups), and the product name you will see is Team. A Team is a saved list of people. You assign the Team to a task, @mention it, or add it as a follower, instead of picking the same five names every time. Free Forever includes 2 teams. Unlimited includes 3. Business includes 10. Business Plus and Enterprise include unlimited teams. Teams Hub, the screen for browsing those groups, starts on Unlimited.
That cap is on the Workspace, not on the person. Help says there is no limit to how many Teams one user can join. The wider setup, Spaces through Lists, is in spaces, folders, and lists. Prices in this guide were checked in October 2026. The product index is the ClickUp hub.
What is a ClickUp user group?
Help's examples are the ones most companies actually need. Assign incoming invoice tasks to an accounts payable Team so anyone in that group can take the request. Mention a project managers Team in a comment so any project manager can answer. Add a leadership Team as followers on a few strategic tasks so they get progress without being the assignee.
Places Help says you can use a Team:
| Place | What the Team does there |
|---|---|
| Task assignee | The people icon can target one person, several people, a Team, or Multiple Assignees |
| Comments and descriptions | An @mention reaches the group |
| Assigned comments | Help lists assigning a comment to a Team |
| Followers | The Team watches the task. Automations can add that follower every time |
| Checklist items | A checklist row can be assigned to a Team |
| People custom field | The field can include Teams when that option is on |
| Filters and dashboard cards | Help lists Team filters and assignee-focused cards |
| Sharing | Plan gated. See the table below |
You assign from the same people icon used for a single owner: while creating a task, in List view, on Board view, on Calendar, from the bulk action toolbar, or with a slash command. The task then shows the Team. Anyone in the group can pick it up.
Team view is a different feature with a similar name. Team view, formerly Box view, draws one box per assignee so you can see load. A Team is the group you assign. You might assign "Support" and then open Team view to see which person inside Support is holding the open tickets. One does not turn on the other.
How many ClickUp teams do you get on each plan?
Help's Teams limits article is the source for the table. The article also says pricing and availability can change, and that Teams Analytics on Unlimited and Business can be tried with unlimited uses for a short time. Read the day limits as the published baseline, then confirm them in your Workspace.
| Feature | Free Forever | Unlimited | Business | Business Plus | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teams | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Teams Hub | Not available | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Number of teams | 2 | 3 | 10 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Teams Analytics | 1 day | 1 day | 7 days | 30 days | 30 days |
| Teams Activity | Not available | 1 day | 7 days | 30 days | Unlimited |
| Share items with teams | Not available | Not available | Not available | Yes | Yes |
| Share Spaces with teams | Not available | Not available | Not available | Not available | Yes |

Only owners and admins can create a Team and manage its members. Members can open Teams Hub. Guests and limited members cannot. Guests, limited members, members, and admins can all be managed from Teams Hub once an admin has added them. An invited person can be placed on a Team before they accept. When they accept, Help says they get the access that Team already has.
On Enterprise, Help also documents Teams created through Okta SCIM and groups provisioned from Microsoft Entra ID. Provisioning creates new Teams. It does not attach to a Team you already built by hand. Those rows show Manual or SCIM Provisioned in Workspace settings.
Our price data, checked October 2026, lists Free Forever at $0, Unlimited at $7 per user per month billed annually ($10 monthly), and Business at $12 per user per month billed annually ($19 monthly). Enterprise is custom. Our data does not publish a Business Plus price, which is the first plan that can share items with a Team. The ladder is in ClickUp pricing.
How do you create a Team and use Teams Hub?
On Free Forever you still have the 2 teams. Teams Hub is off, and Help says you can create and manage teams from Workspace settings instead.
On Unlimited and above, Teams Hub is in the global navigation under Teams. If you do not see it, open More, select Teams, and pin it. From there:
- Click Create team in the upper right.
- Enter a name, pick an icon, and add an optional description.
- Click Create Team.
- Click the people icon to add people, or skip and invite them later.
The sidebar has All teams, All people, Analytics, and My teams. All teams can search, filter by member, created date, or owner, and sort by name or by member count. Open a team for its overview. Help lists these tabs: Overview, Analytics, Priorities, Feed, Team, StandUp, Workload, Timeline, and Timesheet. Workload, Timeline, and Timesheet line up with the views in workload, timeline, and timesheets. The Feed shows recent activity on tasks assigned to the Team or to people in it, with filters for activity type and subtasks. Add member, in the upper right of the overview, is the fast way to change the roster.
What happens when you share work with a Team?
Sharing is the sharp edge, and Help draws it tightly.
| Item or location | Plan | What you can grant |
|---|---|---|
| Private Folder, Subfolder, List, task, checklist, Dashboard, Goal, or Doc | Business Plus and Enterprise | All permissions |
| Public and private Spaces | Enterprise | Full permissions only. Guests on the Team still do not get the Space |
If someone has both a Team permission and a personal permission, the personal one wins. Help's example: Alex is on the Project Managers Team. Sam shares a private task with Alex at comment access, and shares the same task with the Team at view-only access. Alex can comment. The other project managers can only view.
Removing someone from a Team removes access to anything that was shared only through that Team. Items shared with them directly stay. Hierarchy locations and their Chat share permissions. Guests cannot access Chat.
Watch the guest conversion. Help says a view-only guest added to a Team becomes a permission-controlled guest, and a view-only limited member becomes a limited member. Permission-controlled guests still do not get Space access just because the Team has it. Unless the Workspace still has a permission-controlled guest seat available, Help says that guest costs the same as a member seat. The seat math is in guest access. Add clients to a Team only when you mean to change how they are billed.
Automations can keep a Team on followers so a new task in a List notifies the group without a manual @mention. That is the retainer pattern: the List is the client, the Team is the pod, and the assignee is whoever pulls the task.
Trello stays easier if the group is small enough to @mention by name on a card. Asana is the more polished tracker if you want less hierarchy around the same idea of a team. ClickUp Teams are the fit when the same pod should be an assignee, a mention, and, on Business Plus, a share target. The ClickUp review is the rest of that comparison.

What are ClickUp user groups?
ClickUp calls them Teams. A Team is a named group you can assign to tasks, mention in comments, add as followers, and, on higher plans, share items with.
How many teams can you create in ClickUp?
Help lists 2 teams on Free Forever, 3 on Unlimited, 10 on Business, and unlimited teams on Business Plus and Enterprise. A person can belong to any number of those teams.
Who can create a ClickUp Team?
Only Workspace owners and admins. Members can open Teams Hub on paid plans and cannot create teams or manage members. Guests cannot open Teams Hub.

Yes. Help's assign article says you can assign a task to one person, multiple people, a Team, or Multiple Assignees, from the people icon.

No. A Team is a group of people. Team view is a layout that puts each assignee in a box. You can use either one without the other.
